Militants ambush army convoy in Kashmir’s Handwara, 3 jawans injured

Militants ambushed an army convoy in North Kashmir’s Handwara Wednesday morning injuring three soldiers. The army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the militants responsible for the attack.

Locals said the attack occurred on the Baramulla - Handwara highway near Kralgund Udipora village. The convoy was on its way from Kupwara to Baramulla when the attack took place.

This is the second attack on an army convoy in the past one month. On August 17, militants had launched a similar attack on an army convoy on the national highway at Khawjabagh Baramulla that left two soldiers and a policeman dead. The militants had then fled from the spot.

Post the attack, the army started moving its convoys during the day. After the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, the army had been moving its convoys during the night to avoid confrontation with civilian protestors.
