Bomb Thrown at BJP Office in Thiruvananthapuram, Left Denies Role

Thiruvananthapuram: A crude bomb was hurled at the BJP office in Thiruvananthapuram at midnight; nobody was injured.

The CPM, which governs the state in a coalition, has refuted allegations that its workers were involved in the attack, which shattered glass windows at the office.

The bomb was thrown 45 minutes after the BJP's Kerala chief Kummanam Rajasekharan left the office. "The CPM'S hundred days in power is synonymous with violence. It's a breakdown of law and order and we will defend ourselves in every possible manner," he told reporters today.

There were  three party  workers on the top floor of the office when the bomb was thrown.

The BJP is holding a march today to protest against the attack.

"The CPM has no role in the attack. Allegations that  the CPM is behind the attack are only for political gains," said a senior local leader, Anavoor Nagappan.

The CPM and BJP have for decades been entangled in a deeply violent rivalry in Kerala, particularly in the Kannur district, which workers from both sides being hacked to death with sickles and knives.
