Avinashilingam University today organized a special session on 'Current Higher Education System in Sri Lanka' by Dr. Vasanthy Arasaratnam Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
The session was graced by University Chancellor Padmashri Dr.P.R.Krishnakumar, Dr.Premavathy Vijayan, Vice Chancellor, Dr. A. Venmathi Registrar(i/c) of the University.

Padmashri Dr.P.R.Krishnakumar Chancellor of the University in his presidential address mentioned that 'Its a honour to welcome Dr.Vasanthy Arasaratnam, an alumni of the University and who is now the Vice Chancellor of University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka'. He suggested that student exchange programmes should be promoted between Srilanka and India, as it would help to bridge the gap between the two countries.
The keynote speaker for the session Dr.Vasanthy Arasaratnam, shared that she feels very nostalgic to stand on the dice and evoked on the good old days of her college life at the University.

She addressed on the topic 'Current Higher Education System in Sri Lanka'. She stated that the education system in India and Sri Lanka are totally different in all aspects. In Sri Lanka, the government provides free education to all with a promising literary rate of 92%, all educational institutions in Sri Lanka are fully funded by the government.
Totally there are 15 Universities,19 Institutions and 3 campuses comprising of 23,000 students getting enrolled every year for 498 undergraduate courses and 249 post graduate courses. The government is also supporting the upcoming private educational institutes, as well. She briefed on various aspects like policy directions for higher education in Sri Lanka, student enrollment procedures, criteria for pursuing higher education, subject streams, scholarships, ratio of male and female students, teachers, curriculum, medium of teaching and examination procedures. The students keenly listened to her address, as it could guide the aspiring students who would like to pursue their higher studies at Sri Lanka.

Faculty members from all departments and students were present during the session.
