Maoist taken to hospital for eye check up


A Maoist leader lodged in Coimbatore central prison was on Saturday morning taken to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for cataract treatment.

Police said Maoist leader C Veeramani alias Eswar alias Sara alias Sunilkumar, 60, of Samayanallur near Kattumannargudi in Cuddalore district, has been suffering from cataracts on both eyes and had sought treatment from prison authorities.

At the hospital, Veeramani was taken to the ophthalmology department where doctors examined his eyes and gave medicine. He was later taken back to the prison.

Veeramani was arrested along with four other Maoists from a bakery at Karumathampatti in May last and they were lodged at the central prison.
