NCLP's scholarship programme to abolish child labour

As per the guidelines of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP), the'Out of school' children below the age of 14 have been targeted to provide necessary preliminary training to join them under the mainstream schooling, within three years of time. The children who have been forcibly denied education or unaware of the exclusive welfare schemes devised to help them out are being screened by the deputed officials, which is seen as a more 'constructive' way to abolish child labour.

Those children are provided with all necessary stationary and learning tools to pursue education along with free meals and a stipend of Rs. 150/- per month. Upon, completion of three years, the children will be aided to join the mainstream schooling in suitable locations. Through continual monitor structures, the officials ensure that the rescued children are not converted back to 'labours'.

On completion of 10th Std, the students will be provided with a choice of taking up Vocational /ITI training, diploma in nursing / pharmacy/ teaching. They will be given a grant of Rs. 6000 annually and Rs. 500/- per month during the phase.

In this current academic year, 27 students from the district of Coimbatore have been identified and the Government has passed on recommendations to the NCLP to sanction scholarships, Rs. 6000/- monthly, and a total of Rs. 1,62,000/- for pursuing higher education through the National Child Labour Project (NCLP to promote unbiased and equal education opportunity for children, 'education to all'.
