Toilet construction: crowd funding initiative gets under way

Toiletfirst.in, an initiative to construct toilets involving non-government organisations and the Coimbatore Corporation under the Swachh Bharat programme, started its crowd funding operations here on Wednesday.

Objective

According to Swachh Bharat ambassador A.G. Padmanabhan, on Wednesday and Thursday, the initiative had received around Rs. 61,752 from members of the public.

The objective is to collect a sum of Rs. 20 lakh from the public to aid construction of over 600 toilets.

Mr. Padmanabhan said that members of the public could contribute any amount they desire by using the payment gateway atwww.toiletfirst.in.

The money that they received would be in the construct-athon event they had proposed to conduct in the next few days.

Event

The event would be for 72 hours involving entrepreneurs, civil engineering students, faculty of civil engineering in colleges and also professionals to construct as many toilets in the three days.

Support

R. Raveendran, honorary secretary, Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore, said that the initiative was the first of its kind as public and corporate companies were being roped in.

The corporate companies were ready to support the project by providing materials.
