Two Elephant deaths reported today.

On October 3, it was reported that an elephant in Madukkarai was spotted with injuries of the lower jaw with inflammation. The reasons for the same could be Foot and Mouth Disease, external injury or accident, sources said. Necessary arrangements for the oral treatment of this elephant have been made and we are told that medication is administered to this elephant on banana leaf.

Unfortunately, this evening the injured pachyderm passed away not responding to the treatment.

Yet another Elephant death has been reported at Sithankuttai Forest Range, Sirumugai, today.  The female elephant was found dead at the Athukadu area in Sirumugai. The forest officials are yet to ascertain the reason for it's demise.

As the week from October 2nd to 8th is been observed as Wildlife week, the sudden demise of the two pachyderms has left the naturalist and wildlife enthusiasts mournful.

The elephant that died in Madukkarai was undergoing treatment for the oral injury under under the direct supervision of Forest Range Officer (FRO) Madukkarai and a dedicated 20 member crew to monitor it's progress.
