Tiny-tots in our city were initiated into the process of learning as today is the auspicious day of Vijayadashami better known as Dussehra or Ayudhapuja. In places of worship across Coimbatore, special ceremonies were hosted where the parents held the hand of their little ones and helped them write the first letter on a plate of rice. This ritual of initiating the child into learning special poojas were offered to Goddess Saraswathi seeking blessing for the child, as they start their learning journey. As a part of the ritual, several families thronged the Sidhapudur Ayyappan Temple to perform the ritual. Parents guided the little ones to write the words ‘Hari Sree Ganapathaye Namaha’ in praise of Lord Ganesha using rice grains and then using a gold ring a word in vernacular language is written on the child’s tongue, as well. Today, October 11 is the tenth day of Navarathri.
