Following the unrest in neighbouring Kerala, the Ukkadam Mouffusal Bus Stand sports a deserted look. Kerala bound busses are currently off the roads. Even lorries transporting essentials and perishables to this state are halted at the Walayar Check post.

Remith, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was hacked to death on Wednesday in Kerala's Kannur district last Wednesday. This killing, Kerala police say comes in the wake of the K Mohanan being hacked to death last Monday. It is believed that this suspected RSS activists killed K Mohanan the 52-year-old CPI-M grassroot leader. Both of these murders took place in the assembly constituency of Dharmadom represented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Sources share that Remith's father was murdered some years ago.
Following the murders, BJP workers staged a protest against the killing of two party workers in this state. The BJP has alleged CPI-M cadres of killing its party workers and unleashing a reign of terror over political opponents.
