Members of Arunthathiyar community stage protest for non receipt of housing pattas

Members of the Arunthathiyar community today gathered before the collector's office demanding housing pattas. Free housing pattas were promised to members this community. However, members of this Arunthathiyar community claim that have not been sanctioned housing pattas for the last 20 years.  



Over 60,000 people who belong to Arunthathiyar community currently dwell in and around the Thondamuthur area in Coimbatore. Highly placed sources from this community alleged that even after petitioning for free housing land pattas no action has been taken so far.



They alleged that the land was originally allocated for the Arunthathiyar community has been allocated to somebody else. Demanding allocation of pattas, people from the Arunthathiyar community staged a protest before the collector's office. After collector T. N. Hariharan assured them that action will be taken against the encroachers, the protestors dispersed.
