Man surrenders in murder case

A 30-year-old man, on Thursday, surrendered in connection with the death of a history-sheeter at Udhanapalli on Wednesday.

Lakshmanan (30), hailing from Aleseebam village near Udhanapalli, here, was found dead late Wednesday evening. He along with the accused Venkatraj (30), and two others were out on bail from Salem Central Prison in connection with the murder of Venkatraj’s brother in a property dispute in 2011.

Lakshmaman was promised a sum for the murder by Venkatraj.

The accused, who were arrested and remanded in Salem Central prison were out on bail recently. On Wednesday, Lakshmanan had confronted Venkatraj and demanded that he pay up the promised money.

According to police sources, on Wednesday evening, Venkatraj, had lured Lakshmanan to an isolated spot, on the promise of liquor. With the help of two others, Lakshmanan was murdered. The murder of Lakshmanan came to light later in the night.

On Thursday, Venkatraj surrendered before Berigai police.

Lakshmanan has several cases registered against him across police stations.
