More than 2,500 sanitary workers are deployed with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) on contractual basis.
Today morning, a group of sanitary workers submitted a petition to the district collector requesting a festival bonus. While interacting with the media, state advisor for sanitary workers said “Of the over 2,500 contract workers a few of them have worked for more than eight years. However, they are paid a monthly remuneration of just Rs.6,000/-. They are not eligible for any other benefits or allowances. The previous year, they were paid a Rs. 1,000/- as a diwali bonus.”
He also added that this year so far there has been no mention of Diwali bonus. “The sanitary workers working on contract basis should be paid a bonus of two month’s salary. The collector should take necessary action regarding this bonus issue” he said.
