Not many takers for Ganga Snan special train from Tamil Nadu

A special tourist train being introduced by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) from October 25 to take passengers from various places in Tamil Nadu to locations in north India has a number of empty berths.

Named Diwali Ganga Snan special, the train will depart from Madurai and travel via Dindigul, Karur, Erode, Salem and Chennai Central to locations on the banks of the Ganga like Gaya, Varanasi, Allahabad, Delhi, Mathura and Agra. The total duration will be 12 days from October 25, which will cost 10,035 per person for sleeper class travel and 13,940 per person for 3AC.

The package will include security in each coach along with tour escorts. For further information, IRCTC tourism information and facilitation centres can be contacted on 044-64594959, 9003140681 and 9003140673.

Since its inception in 2005-06, the IRCTC, a public sector company owned by Indian Railways, is operating more than 270 such Bharat Darshan trains. The packages offer accommodation, vegetarian food and inter-location travel with tour guides. Most of these are targeted at senior citizens or families out on vacation during long holiday seasons like Diwali, Christmas and summer vacations.

The biggest advantage in opting for these trains is the easy availability of confirmed railway tickets, which otherwise is a tall ask on regular trains during festival seasons.
