Today, 15 of the 17 persons were produced before the District Judicial Court in connection with a case of theft of tobacco products worth one-crore. Five police personnel including a former assistant police commissioner appeared before the Magistrate Madurasekar today. The case has been rescheduled the hearing of this case to 10th November, 2016.
Mangalraj, a trader of tobacco products from Selvapuram in the city lodged a complaint with the police stating that tobacco products worth over a crore had gone missing from his go-down. About a dozen persons have been arrested in this regard. The 12 accused who were arrested in this regard had also pronounced a few names of police officials to have linkages with the theft, the then Assistant Commissioner Sukumar, Sub inspector Selvaraj, Constables Senthil Kumar, John and Kathiresan were involved in the incident.
For further inquiry, the case was transferred to the Crime-Branch Crime Investigation Department (CBCID). The CBCID police have filed a charge sheet against the 17 accused. The court sent summon to all the 17 persons to appear in court today. In this regard, 15 persons including all 5 police personnel appeared before Judge Madurasekar today.
Former DC Sukumar, is now serving as Commandant of Palani Special Police battalion. The court complex witnessed tense moments as five police personnel appeared before the court in connection with a theft case.
