EC launches app to track poll developments

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched an android application for the electorates to stay abreast with the latest developments in the Tamil Nadu state polls. The ECI has also opened a Whatsapp number (9444123456) to file election-related complaints.

The free mobile app, named TN Elections, can be downloanded from the Google Playstore.

The app, according to the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Lakhoni, is aimed at bringing the public, media and EC on a single platform, and provides information about electoral services, candidates and parties, info and media, polling personnel, and complaints.

Lakhoni was speaking to the Returning Officers (RO) of Tamil Nadu at a training programme held in Chennai. 64 ROs from the 32 districts of Tamil Nadu participated in the training programme.

The programme updated the ROs with the legal aspects of nomination and the latest norms of ECI. He said that the programme will help the Returning Oficers avoid mistakes in the nomination process and “clear their confusion."

The officers were instructed to download the TN Election app and add themselves to the Whatsapp group.
