Residents of Srivari Adwait apartment celebrate a green diwali!

Fire crackers are an integral part of celebrating the festival of lights. Be it north Indians or south Indians, during diwali, the entire family gets together and enjoy bursting fire crackers. Undoubtedly, bursting fire crackers pollutes the air we breathe. The animals and birds too are immensely impacted by the noise and air pollution created by crackers.  Considering all this, residents of Srivari Adwait apartment decided to ban fire crackers this diwali and thus celebrated a clean, green, healthy and a happy diwali this year.

This apartment complex is located on East Periyasamy road, RS Puram and 11 families dwell here. The families got together and decided unanimously to refrain from bursting fire crackers. The best part is the children too accepted the idea whole heartedly. The idea has resulted in a clean environment around their apartment complex and more importantly the families are unaffected by staying close quarters to cracker pollution.

Geeta Sridhar one of the residents of this apartment says “The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has done a great job by initiating the green diwali contest. We will WhatsApp our entry too. It has been a wonderful experience celebrating diwali sans fire crackers this year. The kids in our building are healthy too as this year they are not directly exposed to smoke and chemicals. We have plans of celebrating an eco friendly diwali every year from now on'
