CCMC awards public who celebrated 'Green Diwali'


Ahead of diwali the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) had announced a reward for individuals, families, students, communities and NGOs who celebrate a green diwali. This initiative was introduced to encourage the public to stay away from lighting fire crackers considering the impact that they have on the environment, animals and birds. A contest was announced and participants in the various categories were asked to WhatsApp a note on how they celebrated their green diwali and the images of their celebrations.



Special Officer CCMC, Commissioner, Dr. Vijaya Karthikeyan today formally recognized the winners for their efforts in a function that was hosted at the CCMC. In the individual category the CCMC received a dozen entries and Dr. Ashwin Nithish and RTS Rajan won the first and second place. In the group category Srivari Advait Apartment, National Service Scheme unit of Rathinam College of Arts and Science won the first and second place. NGO Pasumai Desam, Arakattalai and Sowmade (Social workers make a difference) were awarded the first and second place in the NGO category and Akshayaa of class 8 and Deepesh first year BCom student won the first and second place in the student category. Appreciating the efforts of the people, Dr K. Vijaya Karthikeyan gave away prizes and certificates to the winners of each category.
