Special Officer, City Municipal Corporation Commissioner (CCMC), Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan and his team are on spree of initiating action against fleecing contractors at all Corporation parking lots and public toilets. Responding to the complaints received from the public, the team under his guidance have been carrying out surprise checks at all parking lots and public toilets to ensure people are not over-charged and the terms and conditions proposed by the Corporation is not violated.
Today, one such contractor at the fish market in Ukkadam was fined rupees 20,000 and a stern warning was issued to him for violating the rules set by the Corporation. M.Harikrishna, is the contractor of the Ukkadam two-wheeler parking lot. It is reported that staff working there had collected close to Rs. 1160/- from the public who've parked outside the corporation parking lot. The board denoting 'No fee will be collected for vehicles parked outside' has been deliberately torn by the fleecers who've cheated public by collecting unnecessary fare, especially on weekends. The officials retrieved the fleeced amount of 1160/- and deposited the same at the treasury department.
In the same area, the public toilet contractor Rahmadullah was also slapped with a fine of Rs. 10,000 for over-charging the public for using the toilets. It is reported that he has been regularly charging public Rs. 3/- for using the toilets instead of Rs. 1/-. A fine of Rs.5000 has been levied on him for similar charges in the past, which is still unpaid, revealed the officials. The contractor has been warned of 'termination' if found to be involved in similar violations.
It is to be re-called that during last week, a contractor at Raja street parking lot was terminated for fleecing. Fines and warnings have been imposed on contractors at Gandhipuram bus-stand public toilet for manipulating the said amount to be collected as fee.
