Selvakumar, Senior Reporter Dinamalar newspaper has been nominated by the Press Council of India for his contributions towards the society through his profession as a journalist for bringing to light the plight of the Koushika River. Through his writings in Dinamalar about the Koushika river Journalist Selvakumar managed to create an impact by educating the public on the journey of the river, how it lost it's path and the need for conservation of rivers.
The award will be conferred to him at new Delhi on 16th November. Since then the news broke out the South Indian Press Association and his fellow Journalists have been conveying their wishes as it is regarded as a proud moment for the Journalists' community in South India.
Today the Coimbatore Press Club had arrange for a felicitation ceremony to extend their wishes and appreciation to Selvakumar. The event waas held at a private wedding hall near Railway station. Members from the journalist fraternity felicitated him for his achievement.

Speaking on the sidelines of receiving this felicitation, Selvakumar said 'This recognition is not an individual appreciation, instead it is for the entire journalists who work tirelessly in bringing in a change in the society. All of us have talent and skills. If only we are provided with a platform, we can bring out our talents and skill sets. Newspaper Dinamalar is a nice platform and I am able to successfully create an impact through my stories. I also encountered lot of threats in my journey as a journalist but my passion for writing and creating a social impact has taken me this far. I humbly request all journalists to work with passion and confidently'

While Selvakumar was formally felicitated his colleagues and fellow journalists took a trip down memory lane and recalled their experience working with him. One of his former colleague Sudhaivan, remarked that “Selvakumar should have received this felicitation about 20-years ago. However, better late than never, he has been honoured. It may be recalled that through Selvakumar’s stories, the smuggling of trees in the Nilgiri Mountain Range was prevented. He has also been instrumental in creating an impact in the Parambikulam Aliyar Project through his writing.”
Joining the journalists at the felicitation function that was hosted by the Coimbatore Press Club (CPC) in the city this morning, several members of the public including entrepreneurs and social workers from our city. R. Raveendran, Secretary, Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), John Peter, Managing Director, Coimbatore Kitchen Equipments Private Limited among other participated in this felicitation function. The budding journalists inspired by Selvakumar's contribution also honoured him with momento.
