Increasing chain snatching incidents haunt the city.

The chain snatchers are on the prowl in the city as incidents reporting chain snatching is becoming a regular phenomenon, in the recent months. It is to be noted that eight women have lost their jewels in similar incidents in the past two weeks alone in Coimbatore. Even today, two incidents of chain snatching have been reported in our city claiming 13 sovereign of gold ornaments of a house-wife and a doctor.

Jayanayaki wife of Murugesan is living in Neelikonampalayam which comes under the Singanallur police station limits. Yesterday, when she was walking near her home a starnger who came on a bike wearing a helmet snatched her 5.5 sovereign chain. On hearing Jayanayaki's cry for help people gathered but the snatcher sped away in no time. Singanallur police have registered a case in this regard and are searching for the offender. In a similar incident, 7 sovereign of gold jewellery was stolen from a lady doctor.

Despite installing CCTV cameras and frequent patrolling in most parts of our city, such incidents do not seem to end. Senior citizens and lone women pedestrians are the targets for these snatchers.
