In and around Coimbatore there are about 28 lakes present and ten of them are under the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC). Perur Lake is also under the purview of the CCMC. This water body is located near the Noyyal river beside the Puttuvikki bridge.

It has been reported that a week ago ten families from Andhra Pradesh have constructed huts on the banks of this lake. When the families were enquired about their whereabouts, the families revealed that they are originally from Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh. They also stated that they have temporarily relocated to Coimbatore for the pipe laying work project in the Army camp in Madukkarai and will return to Andhra after a months time.

When enquired about the occupants to a PWD official, he said that “We don't have any information on the construction of huts by people from Andhra Pradesh in the Puttuvikki bridge area. They might have occupied the lake shores temporarily. An inquiry will be conducted about the matter immediately. If it is found they have come to work for the Madukkarai Army Camp, we will make alternative arrangements for their stay and will move them to another location. As monsoon showers might kick start anytime, the area could flooded instantaneously and pose a serious threat for the occupants hence necessary action would be initiated' he assured.
