Every year November 14th is observed as the World Diabetes Day. A world diabetes day rally was hosted at the Coimbatore General (GH) hospital to create awareness about diabetes.

Coimbatore District Revenue Department Officer, Christuraj flagged off this rally. Dr. Edwin Joe Dean of Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) presided over the rally. Students of the CMCH, Employees of the GH and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel participated in this awareness rally. Coimbatore GH was the start point of this rally and District Collectorate was the end point.

Dr. Jayaprakash, head, Department of Diabetics said, “There is no proper awareness about diabetes among the public. Today, everyone who has diabetes is either using insulin tablets or insulin injection. Free treatment is provided for more than 400 diabetic patients in a day. Also, insulin is provided at free of cost. There are exercises to boost insulin production which differs according to each patient's body type. The blood sugar level can be kept under control by doing these exercises. At least, 30 minutes of brisk walking daily, some kind of sport for one hour, walking will prevent one from getting diabetes.”
