In a petition to the Joint commissioner of prohibition and excise department, the AIFY have sought to regularise the sales and at the TASMAC outlets in the Coimbatore district. In their petition the petitioners stated that the Tamil Nadu government's announcement of shutting down these outlets in a phased manner is taking place at a snail's pace. The government should take steps to curb the sales of liquor in the TASMAC shops which takes place during the prohibited time.

As the government has set targets to increase the liquor sales by appointing officials for planning and implementation, the people who are daily wage labourers and their children are the ones who are affected. The petitioners also added that the government's ignorance on the matter is the reason for incidents of schools students and people queuing up in front of the TASMAC shops early in the morning.
The petitioners have also requested the district collector to take necessary steps to curb the sales of liquor to the minors and also to control the sales before and after the permitted time. A copy of the petition has also been sent to the Coimbatore district collector.
G P Shaktivel, Vice President, AIYF said “Before the current ruling party came to power, they promised to check the sales of liquor. However, nothing has been done in this regard. It may be noted that on any given day the TASMAC outlets are doing roaring business. It is high time that the Government who is in power does something about the TASMAC outlets across our state.”
