CCMC acts tough on contractors of parking lots and pay and use toilets for violating norms

During recent days, CCMC has been acting tough on contractors who were involved in fleecing at all corporation's parking lots and pay and use toilets. A few contractors were terminated and others were levied with fine and warnings.

Action was taken on the orders of the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vijayakarthikeyan on the contractors of parking lot and public toilet facility at the Mettupalayam Road bus station.  Assistant Revenue Inspector and Special Taxes Inspector conducted an inspection on 12th November, 2016 at the Coimbatore Corporation bus stand's parking lot and the pay and use toilet facility. During this inspection it came to light that contractors were violating norms in the collection of fees.

The officials also found that the board with details of the tariffs for using the pay and use toilet and for parking the vehicles at the parking lot was not installed. The contractors were instructed to do so with immediate effect. However, upon re-visit on 16th November, the contractors had still not installed the rate placards. A fee of Rs. 20,000 was levied to Santhakumar Contractor of parking lot and a warning notice and a fine Rs.10,000 was levied on the contractor Jammesha of the pay and use toilet.

Officials also warned the contractors that going ahead if they are found to collect more than the stipulated amount as fee, their contract will be terminated without any notice and also their deposits paid to the corporation will be forfeited, as well. Furthermore, the contractors will be blacklisted.
