Tireless efforts by CCMC and NGOs find new homes for trees cut in Pollachi highways

The recent initiatives taken by the City Corporation along with the NGO's has embedded a feel of reassurance for those who were concerned about the decreasing green cover of the city due to road expansion process kick started by the NHAI at Pollachi - Coimbatore.

Sometime back in 2012, Mettupalayam-Coimbatore road lost nearly a hundred trees due to road expansion works and of course, the Neelambur bye-pass claimed a nearly few thousand trees for bye-pass construction.

And, this time the trees that were cut on the Pollachi have found a new home rather than getting burnt to ashes. The tireless works of NGO's and CCMC has give life to age old trees that stood for decades together in the eco-system.

Yet again, today, a tree transplanted from the Pollachi road sideways got it's new home in a reserve site at Rajam Avenue at Madukkarai - Sundarapuram Road. The transplantation process was flagged off in the presence of CCMC Special Officer, Vijayakarthikeyan.

As informed earlier by him, the process of turning reserve sites to nurseries were also kick-started today. A reserve site at the same Rajam Avenue got transformed into a nursery which would act as a hub for growing saplings and distributing the grown ones to various parts of the city.

Deputy corporation Commissioner Gandhimathi, Pollachi Sub Collector Gayathri and representatives and volunteers from NGO's were present during the transplantation event.
