A readers festival (Vasagar Thiruvizha) was organised by 'The Hindu' - Tamil newspaper in the city. The event was hosted at the Hindusthan College of Arts & Science in Nava India. Writer and Director Bharathi Kannan, film Director M. Sasikumar, ‘Sindhanai Kavingar’ Dr. Kavidasan, Founder and President of Ramraj Cotton K. R. Nagarajan participated as special guests.

The readers of The Hindu from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Salem and Namakkal participated in this event. When speaking on the occasion film director Sasikumar said, “The Hindu newspaper has obtained a special place with the readers. The Hindu is a pioneer in delivering news according to the reader's mindset.”

A question and answer session was hosted. In this interactive session with the audience, on screen violence was discussed. One of the members of the audience commented that cinema is a reflection of society. However, steps should be taken to reduce the on screen violence.
