Self defense workshop inaugurated for students at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women

Women Empowerment cell of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women in Coimbatore is organising a three-day self-defense workshop for the students. This workshop was inaugurated this morning and will conclude on 7 December.

K. Chitra, Principal of this college in her presidential address said, “Safety of women from age 0 to 90 is under constant threat due to abuse. Women whose population is 50 percent in this society are prone to abuse and harassment. Society is impacted at large if women sit at home due to such threats. So we as women should be vigil, alert and equipped. Self defense means not only defending your physical self but also from mental harassment.”

Latha Sundaram, Managing Trustee of Aram Foundation Charitable Trust, in her address said “Dignity of women is the most important aspect. If a woman can’t do something in this world then nobody can do it. That is the power a woman holds. Women are the strongest creation of god. Systematic abuse, opportunistic abuse, physical abuse and psychological abuse are the types of abuse women are subjected to”. In her address, she also emphasised that “You must be the change you want to see in this world.”

In an exclusive interview to SimpliCity she said, “There are 1,000 students in this college. In today’s scenario self-defence is very important for women and it is the need of the hour. Girls today walk into problems and grieve later. I hope this workshop brings a change in them”.  she said.

D. Shivakumar Advocate and Trustee of Aram Foundation Charatable Trust demonstrated to the students how to counter the act of abuse, D. Sivakumar, Gokulraj, and Vivek will also host sessions to train the participants the various self defense techniques.
