Four sub-committees to study drought

The government on Tuesday constituted four cabinet subcommittees to study and assess the implementation of relief measures in drought-hit taluks across the state.

Four teams have been formed for Bengaluru, Kalaburagi, Belagavi and Mysuru revenue divisions. "The panels comprising ministers will be headed by a senior minister. The teams will tour villages, taluks and district headquarters till December 20 and submit a report recommending measures to tackle drought," said revenue minister Kagodu Thimmappa.

While Bengaluru division will be headed by law and parliamentary affairs minister T B Jayachandra, Kalaburagi division will see a team headed by rural development and panchayat raj minister H K Patil. The committee headed by industries minister R V Deshpande will tour Belagavi, and the one headed by revenue minister Kagodu Thimmappa will tour the Mysuru division.

Of the 177 taluks in the state, 130 have been declared drought-hit.
