TN governor applauds police for giving Jaya a 'fitting farewell'

The Tamil Nadu police's handling of the situation in Chennai prior to and post Jayalalithaa's demise has come in for appreciation from governor C Vidyasagar Rao. The governor praised the force for working "tirelessly" to give a "fitting farewell" to the late CM by showcasing "utmost professionalism during her last voyage".

In a letter sent on Wednesday to Tamil Nadu DGP T K Rajendran, Rao said, "The sad demise of Selvi J Jayalalithaa, the popular leader of masses, has brought a great shock to the whole state... The last two days have been the toughest to handle. I am impressed with the way the Tamil Nadu police in general and the Chennai city police, in particular, has handled the difficult situation".

"The former CM had special love for the police department. True to her expectations, the TN police has given a fitting farewell by showcasing utmost professionalism. This would not have been possible without meticulous planning and thorough execution."

The governor also included a special mention for Chennai police commissioner S George and his team. "My appreciation is due to you and to every policeman who worked tirelessly for the last two days. TN police has set an example for the entire nation in this trying situation," said Rao.
