An ardent fan of the former Chief Minister, J Jayalalitha, city-based goldsmith by profession, Unnal Mudiyum Thambi Raja, better known as UMT Raja, has created what he calls Kaneer Anjali for our former CM, J Jayalalitha. This city-based artist who is known to create unique and innovative pieces of art using raw materials that are easily available, has sculpted a family using wax. The words amma are inscribed on his latest work.

Through his creation, that includes a carving of a man, woman and a child, UMT Raja is conveying that people of all age groups are mourning the death of our former CM. He has used wax to symbolise that everything that everyone has literally melted after her (Jayalalitha’s) death.
“The entire state is mourning the death of our former CM. I used black wax and I have carved a man, woman and a child who are mourning the death of our former CM.” UMT Raja says. This artist shares with us, that through this piece of art, he is symbolically depicting what the entire state is going through, after the death of our former CM.
He also shares that he took just two days to complete his latest work and when we ask him what he plans to do with his latest creation, in a jiffy comes the answer, “I have packed my bags and I am all set to go to Chennai. I will board a train to Chennai tonight and I will visit the burial site of our former CM. I will also light this creation and meditate at this site.”
While Jayalalitha was hospitalised for illness UMT Raja had tears in his eyes watching the developments of her health on the television. He also shares that he drew inspiration to create this piece of art as soon as news of her death broke.
