Former Chief Minister J. Jayalaitha passed away on 5 December at 11.30pm. AIADMK party members and people from all walks of life are mourning her death across our state. Transgender community also mourned the death of J. Jayalaitha at Kavundampalayam in Coimbatore. It has been reported that about 50 persons from the transgender community participated in a peaceful procession from Kavundamapalayam to TVS Nagar.

Pongulali, Secretary of Coimbatore transgender association when speaking to the press said, “There are more than 480 tranegenders in Coimbatore. Former Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha has provided us with homes, basic needs and Aadhar cards. Ration cards were provided only to families. On orders from the then Chief Minister, arrangements were made to issue ration cards to us in one week. We are getting jobs now. Under our former CMs rule we were able to live peacefully. Ever since we heard that she is no more, we are in grief. We doubt if anyone can take her place in the future.”
