Garbage Segregation in residential, industrial and educational complexes is mandatory, says CCMC Commissioner


Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner and Presiding Officer Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan has urged that facilities should be created for composting the bio-waste generated at apartments and institutions, as they generate more than 100kgs of waste every day.

Dr. Vijaya Karthikeyan in a meeting said, “Corporation workers are been assigned in door to door collection and segregation of waste in all 100 wards of our city Corporation. According to Swachh Bharath solid waste management rule of 2016 all residences, state and central government institutions, local bodies, private companies, public companies, hospitals, schools, universities, other educational institutions, hostels, hotels, commercial complexes, marriage halls, markets, places of worship, play grounds, all residents welfare associations and market oriented associations should segregate the waste accordingly before handing over it to the sanitary workers.”

“The companies which generate more than 100 kg of non bi-degradable waste and apartments which are more than 5000 sqft in area should hand over the recyclable waste to the authorized company for recycling. And, facilities to segregate and recycle the  biodegradable waste in their own premises should be created on or before 31 March, 2017. For any technical assistance relating the same, the organisations or the residents can get in touch with the Coimbatore Corporation'.
