A five member team, under the guidance of Selvaraj Rangasamy, President of Coimbatore Nature Society (CNS) ventured on a bird watching expedition at the Kuruchi Lake, yesterday.
This team spotted a flock of seven Flamingos at this lake ( Known as ‘Poonaarai’ in Tamil). Post their bird watching expedition, the jubilant team shared their experience with us.

'Flamingos are migratory birds that usually stand on one leg. More than a month ago, about four Flamingos were spotted in Achankulam, close to Neelambur. These migratory birds could have visited the water bodies of Coimbatore due to heavy rains and gusty winds that prevail in several parts of south India.
Unfortunately, this year, our city has received only meager rainfall causing scarcity of water in and around the lakes in our city. But these species of birds are capable of surviving in swallow waters too. It was a great sight to spot these long-legged birds in their pink hues'.
