Om sri Thevar Bakthi Maha Sangam petitions collector with various demands

Om sri Thevar Bakthi Maha Sangam which has its registered office at Narasimanaikenpalayam in Coimbatore has filed a petition with the Coimbatore collector seeking actions against the removal of their community from the Denotified community list. In the petition they have said that under the habitual offenders act people belonging to 68 denitrified tribes were given community certificates as Denotified Tribes. Government officials have changed the Denotifed tribe classification into the Denotified Community classification in 1978.

The reservations for the people of this community have been impacted due to the new order. But elsewhere in India the communities which are impacted by the habitual offenders law is placed under the ‘DNT’ community. The ‘DNT’ commission which was formed by the central government in 2008 has recommended that the communities that are affected by the law should be placed under the ‘DNT’ community tag all over the country. The central government is providing scholarships for the students of ‘DNT’ community students. But these scholarships are not provided to the students of DNT in Tamil Nadu.

 1. As per the Tamil Nadu government’s education policy the ‘DNT’ is still relevant. As the GO number 1310 issued on 30.07.1997 is invalid we should be provided ‘DNT’ certificates again.

 2. Members should be appointed to the ‘DNT’ welfare board.

3. ‘DNT’ status should be provided immediately.

 4. ‘DNT’ welfare board identity cards should be provided to the members and the welfare provided through the board should be regularised.

5. Industrial estates should be created in the regions where ‘DNT’ community live in large numbers and employment should be provided to them.

6. The people of the ‘DNT’ community should be encouraged to do agriculture by helping them to remove the ‘Seemai Karuvelam’(Sceitific name: Prosopis Julifora).

7. Higher education institutions should be created in the areas where the people of DNT community live in large numbers.

8. A financial institution should be created for the people of ‘DNF’community and help them to improve their standard of life and education.
