Stalin slams VCs for meeting Sasikala, writes to governor

DMK treasurer and leader of opposition M K Stalin on Thursday sought the removal of vice-chancellors of ten universities for calling on former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's aide V K Sasikala.

In a letter to governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Stalin said, " I request the Hon'ble Governor to initiate appropriate action in the capacity as chancellor of universities under the relevant rules and regulations of their service conditions to remove them from the post of vice-chancellors."

The 10 vice-chancellors, along with the registrar of Anna University, met Sasikala at Poes Garden on Monday. A picture of the meeting published in the AIADMK's mouthpiece "Dr Namadhu MGR" on Tuesday stated that they had called on Sasikala to offer their condolences and that they also urged her to "take over the leadership mantle" from Jayalalithaa.

"Academicians who are the torchbearers of higher education in the state calling on a person who is not holding any public office is unethical, unwarranted and unconstitutional. Such an attitude on the part of vice-chancellors proves that their loyalty is neither for the academic excellence of the state nor for the chancellor of the universities," Stalin said.
