'The Residency towers' has wowed it's customers with an astounding 24 foot tall Christmas tree for this festive season. Whats so astounding about the tree is that, it's made out of nearly 7000 plastic water bottles.
Very creative and alluring the tree glows with colorful lights all through the day and undeniably garnering the attention of the in-house and guests who visit the hotel.
Erin Louis, General Manager of Hotel Residency Towers Coimbatore, while speaking exclusively to SimpliCity shares the idea behind the concept. “For any occasion or festival, big or small, we have the tendency to go on a shopping spree to purchase decorative products and accessories. Be it Diwali, Pongal, Christmas we first head towards the market to spend money on the decorative materials. So, in the month of October, when we at the Residency Towers were planning for putting a Christmas tree, we thought instead of getting stuff from market lets create a tree by converting the waste into wealth. So the idea was to follow the four Rs - Reuse, Recycle, Reduce and Regenerate.”
“Being associated with the hospitality industry in the luxury segment, we wanted to redefine responsible hospitality and luxury. We sent two staffs from Residency Towers to Ooty to collect the dry leafs, bushes, dried fern petals, dry seeds as Ooty has it in plenty. All those raw materials were hand-picked by our staff and bought down to Coimbatore.”
“These raw materials were painted and used for decorating the entire hotel in different patterns. Apart from that, all the old news papers were converted to decorative things and have also been put up in our hotel. As far as the Christmas tree is concerned, we did not have to outsource anything. We discovered that the hotel has plastic bottles piled up, so those bottles were taken and used. Nearly 7000 bottles were collected used and supported by steel rods.”
Erin proudly says “This year’s Christmas decoration did not have any investment but gives the entire team immense satisfaction as we have initiated small step towards a big change. The work was like a team building activity, as everyone did their part whenever they had free time. The tree was ready in a week’s time.”
He further shares that Residency has been pioneer in celebrating all the festivals. This is done to give a sense of inclusiveness as ours is metro city with people from all over India.
“The day this Christmas tree was ready and placed many of our guests appreciated the efforts and concept behind following the 4 Rs. We are sure many kids who see this Christmas tree would surely follow the concept of Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Regenerate and be responsible. As these kids are the future of country.” Erin says.
On 24th this tree will be decorated with lights and there will be 25 member choir singing Christmas Carols followed by a grand celebration at Residency Towers.
