S.Rajarathinam alias Vinoth, Coimbatore District President of Rashtriya Hindu Parishad today submitted a petition to the Coimbatore Collector, TN Hariharan requesting a ban on New Year celebrations in our city.
In the petition he has stated that, 'Strict action and ban should be imposed those who indulge in hosting new year parties and liquor parties in the city. Due to these liquor parties, those who drive two-wheeler and four-wheelers pose a serious threat to the public due to their unruly driving. And, moreover such parties are strictly against our tradition and culture' he said.

They petitioners also pointed that a ban should be imposed on New Year Poojas' which are taking place at midnight at all temples including those under the Tamilnadu Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments department.
'According to Hindu Mythology, midnight is believed to be the time for all evil things like ghosts to be active. Offering poojas' during weird hours is against the beliefs and such acts will lead to destruction', petitioners claim.
Hence, they had requested the Collector to ban midnight poojas' and parties during the new year's eve.
