AIYF members protest seeking removal of ban on Jallikattu.

Protests are being hosted all over Tamil Nadu putting pressure on the central government to pass a law in favour of conducting Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu during Pongal 2017. As a part of protests in favour of conducting Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu, members of All India Youth Federation (AIYF) hosted a protest in front of the Taluk Office in Coimbatore today.

Protestors participated in this protest with the Jallikattu bulls demanding permission to conduct Jallikattu. They also accused the central government stating that the government is following double standards, in the case of Jallikattu. They also alleged that for the past three years, the central government has not taken any steps to conduct Jallikattu. The protestors raised slogans against the Central Government alleging them for not removing the ban and urged that the government should pass orders on priority to conduct the traditional sport of Tamil Nadu.

They also put forth that bulls should be removed from the list of animals which are banned for training and exhibition. The protestors stated that in 1991, through a notification the Environment Ministry banned training and exhibition of bears, monkeys, tigers, panthers and dogs. The list was updated in 2011, after which bulls were also added to the banned list hindering the Jallikattu event.
