Mother appeals government for treating her mentally ill daughter

Beaula (26) from Rathinapuri in Coimbatore became mentally unstable after the death of her girl child. Since then on, she was taken care of by her mother. Being mentally ill, Beaula was involved in throwing stones at passersby and she used to wander on the streets near her home.

It has been reported that, a couple of days earlier she (Beaula) attacked a child who was playing near her home, injuring the child in the head. Following which Beaula’s mother locked her up in the home. Currently, Beaula is in a temple where she was tied up using ropes.

Dhanalakshmi, Beaula’s mother, when speaking to the press said, “When I took her (Beaula) to the Coimbatore General Hospital (GH), the doctors there gave her some tablets and sent us back. They refused to admit her as an inpatient. They did not listen to me even after repeated requests. Private hospitals are demanding a fees of Rs.1500 per day to treat her, which we cannot afford to pay. Government should help us to get treatment” she said.

Rathinapuri Police who visited the location removed the ropes that Beaula was tied up in.
