Students of Coimbatore Government Arts College protest for removing ban on Jallikattu

With the festival of Pongal just days away, protests are being hosted at various places across Tamil Nadu putting pressure on authorities to allow conducting this traditional sport. Students of the Government Arts College in Coimbatore today protested seeking the removal of the ban on jallikattu. It has been reported that the students did not attend classes today, as a mark of protest. As a part of the protest, students shouted slogans demanding that the ban on jallikattu is removed.

The students also said that if permission is not granted to conduct jallikattu, they will conduct the sport despite the ban. Agitated students of this college stated that, as far as granting permission to conduct Jallikattu is concerned, the Central Government should stay neutral, just as it has done in the Cauvery issue.

They also reacted to one of the judge’s comments on whether you will tame a lion instead of a bull, during the hearing of the petition that sought a ban on Jallikattu. The protesting students of this college also stated that they condemned the judge, for remarks that he passed, sans understanding the feelings of the people.
