Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today held a protest seeking action is taken against the employees of a microfinance firm who misbehaved with the women, who were unable to pay their loan dues, following the demonetisation of high value currency.

Women from Periyanaickenpalayam and surrounding areas have obtained loans from a microfinance firm and were repaying their loans in monthly instalments. Following the demonetisation of high value currency, the women were unable to pay their dues as per the schedule for the last two months.

Putting tremendous pressure on the women borrowers, the employees of the microfinance firm insisted that the respective loan instalments are paid by the women borrowers. The women borrowers filed a complaint in this regard with the district collector last week. The collector ordered the police to conduct an investigation in this matter. It has been reported that an investigation is on.

The women state that the microfinance firm is demanding the repayment of the loans immediately. Women along with the Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) hosted a protest today seeking action is taken against the microfinance firm.
