Special buses for Pongal from January 11 to 13

The State Transport Corporation (STC) proposes to operate special buses from January 11 to 13 for the Pongal festival.

The STC will be operating 11,270 long distance buses to various parts of the State and Andhra Pradesh from the city from six bus termini including, Anna Nagar (West), Adyar Gandhi Nagar, Tambaram Sanatorium, Poonamallee, Urapakkam and Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu.

A senior STC official said the long-distance buses are being operated from the six termini to not only decongest the CMBT but also for faster service. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) would be operating 200 special buses as feeder services to the six bus termini.

Buses originating from CMBT would be operated to destinations like Velankanni, Tiruchi, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Shencottai, Thoothukudi, Thiruvananthapuram, Panrutti, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Salem, Coimbatore, Ernakulam and Bangalore.

Passengers bound for Andhra Pradesh would have to board the buses at Anna Nagar (West) bus terminus. Those who have reserved tickets to the southern districts would have to board at Urapakkam bus stop.

Buses bound for Arcot, Arani, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur and Hosur would start from Poonamallee bus stand and buses from Tambaram Sanatorium would be operated to Kumbakonam and Thanjavur. Those commuters wanting to take the ECR to reach Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram would have to board at Adyar Bus stand.

Those planning to travel more than 300 km could book their tickets at www.tnstc.in. The STC has opened additional (two) ticket counters at Tambaram Sanatorium depot and one at Poonamallee. Already 26 ticket counters are operational at the CMBT. The 29 counters would function from January 9 to 13.
