TPDK's novel way of protest seeking release of prisoners who have served more than a decade.

Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) party members today petitioned the District collector in which they sought the release of prisoners who have served a jail term of more than 10 years in Tamil Nadu. The protest was led by TDPK President, K. Ramakrishnan.

The petitioners jointly requested that the prisoners be released on the birth centenary of DR. M.G.Ramachandran (MGR), the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

The sight of the protestors being self hand-cuffed and standing behind the bars garnered the attention of the public and the staff at the Collectorate. One of the petitioners stated that 'In the state of Karnataka and Kerala, those prisoners charged with life-term and served several years in the prison are been released. But here in the State of Tamil Nadu, prisoners even after serving two decades continue to languish in the prisons'.

Members of TPDK party also demanded release of A.G.Perarivalan along with 6 other convicts in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. They also pointed out that the convicts have been serving sentence for more than 25 years and the government should consider releasing them during the centenary birthday celebrations of Dr. MGR.
