Nursing students of Ganga Institute of Health Sciences take special oath at the lamp lighting ceremony.

Ganga Institute of Medical Sciences, yesterday celebrated their 8th batch of B.Sc (Nursing) and 12th batch of GNM by hosting a lamp lighting ceremony at their hospital.

From this year on wards, a new event has been added along with the lamp lighting ceremony that is dedication of 'Allied Health Science'(AHS). The AHS oath was administered by Dr. Balavenkata Subramaniam, Chief Anesthesiologist, Ganga hospital.

Rama Rajasekaran, Managing Trustee, Ganga Institute of Health Sciences delivered the welcome address. Dr. S.Rajasabapathy, Head -Department of Plastic Surgery and Dr. S. Rajasekaran, Head, Department of Orthopaedics and Spine Surgery delivered the special address.

Kanakavalli Shanmuganathan, Managing Director, Ganga Hospital lit the lamp and transferred the luminosity to the nursing fraternity on the dais, then the light was passed to the students lamp.

The ceremony was presided by Dr. J.G.Shanmuganathan, Chairman, Ganga Hospital. Dr. Tamilmani, Principal, Annai JKK Sampooraniammal College of Nursing was the guest of honour and she delivered an inspiring speech on importance of nursing profession in patient care. Motivational speaker, Dr. Jayanthasri Balakrishnan, was the special invitee for the event.

As white colour symbolizes the qualities of knowledge and humanity, close to 68 nursing students dressed in white held a lamp and stood in a shape of a heart. It also symbolizes that the nursing students have dedicated their lives towards caring for people without discrimination.

While addressing at the event, Dr. Rajasabapathy said, 'Initially, students took up nursing programme by chance, however, currently students enroll for nursing course by choice. It has been eight years since we are hosting the lamp lighting ceremony, and year after year, we are able to produce better quality students, who in-turn will give back to the society in whatever way they possibly can. The branch of nursing is regarded as paramount, when compared to other disciplines of study. It is said that whenever love and interest is combined the outcome would be a 'master piece'. Similarly our Ganga Institute of Health Science is a masterpiece. This is the only institution where there is no barrier between anyone as we people are joined together for the noble cause, 'patient care.'”

Dr. Jayanthasri Balakrishnan while speaking to the students shared that she is with them here not to deliver a speech but to communicate with them. She narrated her experience of hospitalization and the care she received from the nursing fraternity, which she claims to be beyond words.

"Human beings are blessed with five senses, you people are like weapons, your touch and knowledge will heal the world. You are incarnation of empathy. Parents who sent their kids for pursuing nursing are incarnation of courage and peace. They are equal to parents of soldiers, who sacrifice his life for serving the nation. Similarly, you are striving for the betterment of the society and to help the people suffering from ailments. Students who have taken this profession are blessed with emotional intelligence as they always think with their heart and feel with their brain.” Jayanthasri Balakrishnan, said.
