TNEB employees show their support for Jallikattu.

Employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) who are affiliated to CITU, TNEB Workers Federation Aikiya Sangam, AUSU TNEB Engineering Association today protested against the ban on Jallikattu in front of the TNEB, headquarters at Tatabad. About 500 employees of the TNEB participated in the protest by holding placards and raising slogans against PETA.

The supporters requested the central and state governments to lift the ban on Jallikattu.

One of the protestors when speaking to SimpliCity stated that "Though the ordinance has been passed, we want Jallikattu to be conducted every year regularly not this year alone. We want a permanent solution to this problem. The PETA organisation should be banned immediately.

The students have shown amazing strength and character during this protest and non-involvement of any political party is the reason that this protest is going on in a peaceful way till date. Students have realized that they have to fight for their rights.” said the protestor.

When asked, whether the employees of TNEB have been to VOC grounds to show their support he said “All of us are going to VOC grounds after our office hours, while many of our family members are already there at the grounds lending their support for Jallikattu. The union members have also planned to contribute one sack of rice for cooking food for the supporters at the VOC grounds”.

Like TNEB, various organisations and associations have been showing their support to lift the ban on the traditional bull-taming sport. The protests for Jallikattu which was started by the students has stirred up the whole state to stand up for the sport.
