Celestial wedding of Goddess Periyanayagi with Lord Peruvudaiyar solemnized at Big Temple


 Thousands of devotees thronged and witnessed the famous ‘Thirukkalyanam’ (Celestial Wedding) of Lord Peruvudaiyar with Goddess Periyanayagi Amman at the world renowned Big Temple, a heritage monument, here today.





The divinely wedding was solemnized inside the temple premises between the auspicious hours of 6pm and 8 pm amidst chanting of Vedic hymns by the temple priests.



A group of priests led by Chief priest Gnanamani , representing the Goddess and the Lord respectively, placed the ‘Thaali’ (mangalasutra) on the hands of Lord Peruvudaiyar and then tied it  around the neck of  Goddess Periyanagi as part of the annual10-day Aani Brahmotsavam festival. Following which, a large number of women devotees also renewed their 'mangalsutras'.

During the regal ceremonies of the Aani Brahmotsavam, the idol of Goddess Periyanagai was decked in ornaments made of precious stones and other jewels. The devotees, along with an array of gifts including bangles, fruits, turmeric powder,  saffron-box, turmeric- smeared cord,  stood in a long queue and made a generous presentation of money on the occasion.





In view of the celestial wedding event, the temple administration had made elaborate arrangements to facilitate the devotees to witness the ceremony without any hassle.
