Seed Day Celebration in TNAU; suitable seed varieties recommended to farmers

Coimbatore: "Importance of seed production, seed entrepreneurship and recommendations of suitable seed varieties were discussed at the "Seed Day function” organised by the Department of Seed Science and Technology, Directorate of Seed Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) held on January 29, 2020.

Coimbatore: "Importance of seed production, seed entrepreneurship and recommendations of suitable seed varieties were discussed at the "Seed Day function” organised by the Department of Seed Science and Technology, Directorate of Seed Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) held on January 29, 2020.

A total of 50 innovative farmers from different districts of Tamil Nadu, Scientists of Seed Centre and students of Department of Seed Science and Technology took part in the programme.

During the programme, Dr. P.R. Renganayaki, Professor and Head, Department of Seed Science and Technology welcomed the gathering. 

B.R. Narayanaswamy, CEO, Agroforestry Farmer Producer Company Limited, Coimbatore in his felicitation address emphasized the importance of seed production and seed entrepreneurship.

The special address was given by Dr. S. Geetha, Director (CPBG) in which she encouraged the farmers those who are involved in seed production and she recommended suitable varieties released from TNAU, especially in pulses and oilseeds for the benefit of farmers.

Dr. S. Sundareswaran, Director, Seed Centre focused on issues on seed production and seed quality enhancement . In his address he released a booklet on “Seed Production and Quality enhancement”. 

The exhibition and demonstrations were arranged regarding quality seed production, hybrid seed production techniques, seed quality enhancement and seed storage techniques. 

During the interaction session between the scientists and farmers, ways to enhance production of pulses, oilseeds and vegetable seeds were

discussed in detail. 

The programme ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. J. Renugadevi, Professor (SST). Dr. K. Krishnaveni, Professor (SST) and other staff members were present.
