SMS alerts on booking status to passengers of Indian Railways

As part of its Go-Green policy, the Indian Railways has launched an SMS alert service for passengers to know their bookingstatus. The trial run of the service was carried out on the Chennai-Bengaluru Shatabdi Express on Sunday.

The service will be tried on the Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express from March 22 onwards.

Passengers will no longer have to search for their names on the lists pasted on the railway compartments. But, the waitinglist will continue to be posted at the entrance board of all the railway stations.

Also, the Southern Railway has introduced another SMS service to inform the passenger of the platform number on which their train would arrive and depart. This would greatly help in avoiding last moment panic runs.
