Government Arts and Science colleges in the state have over 6,000 unfilled vacancies for teaching and non-teaching staff

According to sources, the prioritization given to the establishment of colleges is more than that of appointing Asst. Professors and Professors for the same.

Coimbatore: According to recent reports, about five years ago, the number of the Government College of Arts and Science was about 90.

But, in recent years, the numbers have gone up and it has risen to 163. Significantly in the last one and half years alone, a good 13 colleges were established.

Sources claimed that prioritization to the establishment of colleges is more than that of appointing Asst. Professors and Professors for the same.

It was reported that the posts of librarians, directors of physical education, professors and Assistant professors are still vacant in many newly- established Arts and Science colleges.

In a recent GO passed by the Tamil Nadu Collegiate Educational Service, it was informed that about 65 Professors have been promoted to the post of Principal Grade- II in the Government Arts College across various districts of Tamil Nadu.

These vacancies exist in Pollachi, Puliakulam and Thondamuthur Government Arts colleges, which needed to be filled up.
