Police evicts Jallikattu protestors from VOC grounds

After six consecutive days, the spontaneous uprising of Jallikattu protests have finally come to an end at the VOC Grounds, Coimbatore. Nevertheless, the vacant VOC grounds will always be remembered for the first of it's kind people's movement executed thoroughly in a non-violence manner.


This morning, the police requested the protestors to asked withdraw their protests and disperse from the location. The students denied the proposal and expressed their intent to continue their protests demanding a permanent solution for the Jallikattu issue. 

The police explained the situation in detail to the students and pacified them to get back to their as all the ordinance will be transformed into a law within a couple of days. Yet, the students were determined and urged that PCA should be amended with immediate effect by the central government. However,  a part of protestors, predominantly students disagreed to clear the location.

At last, the police resorted to lathi charge. The police chased away and evicted the protestors from the VOC grounds. Tense situations prevailed at the VOC grounds as the police deployed in the grounds evicted and discharged lathi-charge on the protestors. The protestors who were adamant to clear the protests entered into a scuffle with the police, who courted arrests. 

Following the lathi-charge, the students and the public cleared the grounds. Security has been beefed-up at the protest site and at all important junctures like railway stations, bus terminus and airport, as the protestors may be conduct a rail roko or boycott buses.
